New Year, New Changes

To say that I’m late to the ‘Post of 2013’ game would be an understatement. I passed fashionably late by a solid three to four days. But being fashionable is overrated. (Right?) So instead, you’ve all got yourselves a slightly lengthy explanation post.

I know I’ve been more than slightly MIA lately and that that was done with zero warning on my part. For that I apologize. There is a bit of an explanation/excuse that goes in the direction of: apparently some people don’t have wi-fi and when there’s five people wanting to hook up to the internet, one chord really isn’t enough. However, that’s not the only reason.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my blog in the time that I’ve been away. A lot of thinking and discussing and browsing and more thinking. I love my blog, I do, but I also believe that it can be more than it is now. That there is more that I can do with it and I want to try and achieve that.

By that I don’t mean that I’ll be straying into random posts and tangents (or any more random than some of my tangents are now). Something with some structure that lends to more variety (it is the spice of life, after all). The thing is that I haven’t quite sorted out how I want it to look, but I know I want it to change and evolve.

So I’m asking you to please bear with me as I try and move my blog into the next phase, as awkward and slow and bizarre as it might be, I promise that I will do my best to see it through to that next step.

As well, I know most people have done their resolution posts (or their anti-resolutions posts). This might as well be mine.

Last year I started something new: instead of making a list of things that I wanted to accomplish, I picked a word. Something to carry me through the year, something I aimed to be more of. Last year’s word was ‘fearless’. As far as experiments go, I’d say it was a fairly successful one. It got me through an internship, three summer jobs, au pairing in France,  going to Paris by myself, changing families and going to Prague for New Year’s.

So I decided to continue this year, with the word ‘determined’. There are so many things that I want to be determined about (taking more pictures, writing more, learning more French, exploring/travelling/seeing more,) and I’m sure you’ll get to see a lot of that through this blog. But I’m also determined about this blog. Determined to turn it into something that I am proud of and am excited to come to each day. Determined to make it something that you can’t wait to read and see and discuss. Determined to see it through all the awkward phases and unsure days and not quite there posts.

So here’s to 2013 and everything a new year brings with it!

I was beginning to wonder what happened to you…glad to see that you’re back!
I’m sure that whatever changes you make will be wonderful…don’t make too many, however, as I’ve quite enjoyed what you’ve done thus far.
    Proud of you…Maman
