Studio Work

So the third issue of The Pioneer that my classmates and I put together can be found here, with my story on page 5.

It was the first time in a long time that I’d been in the studio, and I’d really almost….missed it. Something about being able to control all of the elements in a photo is something that makes you feel proud of your end result, knowing that you were the one making it happen.

And here are some other shots we tried:

Today was another one of those ‘get all the things done!’ type of days I’m coming to really like. I don’t want to jinx anything, so I’ll hold off spilling the beans until things are concrete, but, it was one of those good days you feel happy about at the end of.

Oh! And I fulfilled my commitment to try and shoot more sports. So basketball shots will be headed within the next few days. From what I could tell on my screen (lol, worst thing to judge a picture on, really), I might have actually done a decent job.

Things I’m Loving:

+  Ten Best Food Blogs to Bookmark – I think I actually had about half of these bookmarked to begin with, but the others were a wonderful treat to go check out. And food photography? Will always be some of my favourite photography to look at.

+ A-Z of Personal Style – Things are just made so much simpler when put in an A-Z format. As well, we always seem to forget the simple things, and this points them all out.

+ Silence Over Gay Footballers – “There are currently around 5,000 professional footballers in Britain, but none are openly gay. Amal Fashanu, niece of Justin Fashanu, asks why no gay player has followed in her uncle’s boots in nearly 25 years.” Such a compelling read, and, asks a very intriguing question.

+ Coffee With That Outfit – Coffee coloured pieces for a wonderfully relaxed, and slightly man inspired, outfit. I want those pants in my life for this spring.

So this week was the first week that I worked on the school paper. While most of us had two articles published, I only had one (sadface) BUT! that wasn’t because of anything other than the fact that my second story is so awesome that it got pushed back until our Tuesday back (Jan. 31) so that I could do it the justice it deserves. (And up and coming athletes with Olympic ambitions deserves lots of justice).

Remember the daycare? The one with the ridiculously adorable children and the sign language? Well, I wrote a story to go with it, and then stuck a picture with it and voila! My first*  article published in a (n online) newspaper.

The whole paper is here, if you’d like to check it out, and my story is on page four.

That should explain as to why I’ve basically been MIA. This is something so completely new and I haven’t been that drained at the end of a day in so long. Thank goodness we have the day off tomorrow for all the things I neglected to do during the week!

*actually it’s my second but the first was in a small town paper that doesn’t have a website, so I can’t flaunt that one

Things I’m Loving:

+ Blood Orange Margaritas – I don’t know if it’s because my friends are PhotoJ’s or if it’s because they’re half Mexican, but they drink tequila like water (in a classy way, of course). And I know they would love this. So, next up for Friday night drinks? 🙂

+ Houses By Night – This actually makes me think of those little Christmas villages, except DIY and cheaper. But I would totally make a set of these for my front windows and place them on the ledge inside. (Except the cat would knock them off and destroy them. 😦 )

+ Pitchside Photo – I’ve been through so many football (and for those of you who are like my father, I do mean soccer) blogs/articles/websites/etc. in the last few days I can’t even begin to tell you where I found this, but I love it. Paul shoots non-league football games, and you can really see the love that these players have for the sport.

+ Chairlift – Their second album can be streamed online for you to listen to. Do it! Do it now. Because it’s perfect for an evening with tea or hot chocolate and a good book.

His Girl Friday (but not really)

It’s Been a Good Week

Blueberries on the riverbank testify to the fact that there’s still some Summer feeling left in nature. The wind with a bit of a bite this morning, however, promised that Fall will really start to settle in soon.
Yesterday was a good day (it’s been a good week, really). I received my Kinfolk mag. I opened my door to leave for the day, and, there it was, sitting on my banister, just waiting for me. Because of school assignments, I didn’t get to sit down right away and read it, sadly, but that’s what this evening will be dedicated to.
The assignment that I was working on. Then & Now: compare and contrast between a photograph taken ‘then’ (40+) years ago and a photograph taken ‘now’. Mine’s not quite as zoomed in, but, I do think it gets the point across.
Things I’m Loving:
+ Austen Prose – A Jane Austen blog filled with all sorts of continuations/insights/etc of the books that you all love and adore. Filled with reviews and guest posts, it’s an absolutely wonderful find.
+ Stray Italian Greyhound by Vienna Teng – I’ve basically been listening to this on repeat. Basically.
+ So You Want to Attend a Film Festival? – Another article by moi over at GoodPrattle. Check it out and let me know what you think.
+ Homemade chicken soup – I made a chicken last night for some friends and myself, and today I’ll be making homemade chicken noodle soup for a potluck tomorrow evening for a friend’s birthday party. Homemade food is so wonderful, don’t you think?
