Weekend Drink

IMG627

A really quick post to kick off the weekend. I figured since I skipped out on most of this week and am going to be a little busy until about Wednesday evening, I’d try and make up the difference this weekend.

So, I’m aware of the concept of fruit in wine. It’s not an entirely new idea to me. However, when my HM quickly sliced up a peach into a small glass, sprinkled some sugar on top before pouring wine over all of it, I realized how great of a sunny summer drink it would be. The peaches in the house are a little past ripe, so the fruit juice mixes a bit with the wine and the sugar helps to sweeten it all up. Quick, easy, a little fancy and perfect for the weekend!

Things I’m Loving:

+ These shortalls – (Or these overalls. To go with these.)
+ Download this for your computer – (To save your eyes.)
+ Fairytales – (For an afternoon of reading.)
+ Journalist Express – (For all you journalism people out there.)

Well Spent Weekend

I ended up with a mini break this weekend, which resulted mostly because I kept oversleeping and they let me. Which was nice since I’m still not sleeping well, and while I’m glad that that’s the only form my stress is taking, it’s still rather annoying and I wish it would stop. But! I did end up with some time just for myself, and it was lovely and perfect and the sun was shining and so, naturally: everything I didn’t know I needed until it was there and I decided to take advantage of it.*  Continue reading

1. & 2.) I have family that loves cooking.

3.) Good book and an iced cap before work.

4.) If you ever wanted to know what the inside of a soft ice cream machine looks like.

5. 6. & 7.) I work with food. All. The. Time. (I also eat it quite often.)

8.) Walking to the pool and stopping to look at ALL OF THE WORMS.

9. & 10.) Things that are awesome: getting to be at the pool when NO ONE ELSE IS THERE because one of your sisters is the manager.

11.) My wet pants because I didn’t expect to go swimming.

Things have been crazy busy lately. Without going into too many details, right now I’m working overtime between a couple of different places and it’s making things (like blogging and getting a hold of people) very difficult. I do have some things that are happening (or I’m working hard at making happen, rather) that I’m quite excited about sharing with you. However, I believe in not jumping the gun and waiting until things are set solidly in place before sharing. (How embarrassing to have to retract exciting news!)

As well, I’ve been mulling over the idea of a different format for posts. I’ll be posting said change in post before the end of the weekend and see how I like it and whether or not it’ll stick.

1.) Pumpkin torte that my mother made. Pretty sure I had a solid four pieces.

2.) Our family makes homemade pizza like nobody’s business. The size of cookie sheets and all of the toppings.

3. & 4.) The view from my hammock this weekend.

5.) Yellow shoes for the spring.

6.) Delicious rice in an awesome bag.

My mother and I babysat my cousin’s kids for the weekend and the weather was sunny with wind and afforded some quality hammock time. Then my Victoria Day laziness went from sleeping in to a massage to a  Zoomba workout (with a side of yes, still sorting through boxes), which I’m going to count as a win.

Things I’m Loving:

+ What is next for women’s soccer? – The WPS officially finished last Friday, sadly, and this article talks about what the future looks like for the sport.

+ 6 Portrait Lighting Patterns Every Photographer Should Know – A fantastically thorough piece on lighting and the steps on how to have that kind of lighting for your portraits. Definitely something I’ve bookmarked.

Everyone has Mother’s Day pictures to post. And then there’s me. Not because I don’t love my mother because really, there’s no one else out there who’s going to put up with me like she does and that’s something I cherish. But because I a.) didn’t have my camera and b.) it’s a lot harder to take pictures while bonding than you think. Especially when that bonding consists of playing backyard soccer and cards before bed. My family has a lot of feelings regarding their cards. (I think I’ve said that before but it’s so true that it’s probably going to come up several times this summer. Don’t be put off though. You can stop by and play, just make sure to put your game face on and we’ll let you have the washroom if you get something in your eye during.)

Back to: I hope any mothers reading this had a wonderful day with their children. You’re all the best. (Though not quite as best as my mother is.)

1.) Spend Friday/Saturday babysitting my cousin’s kids and board games were the theme.

2., 3., & 4.) Even with the wind it was absolutely gorgeous. Sister #2 playing catch in the backyard with brothers #1 & 4. Bro #4 is on a ball kick and has this thing with all of them needing to be all in the same place. The wind kicked up enough to scatter them. Poor kid welled right up and started chasing them down. (Sister #2 and I couldn’t resist laughing at his poor expression. Oh dear.)

5.) Flowers for Mother’s Day. There’s nine: one for every kid and one for my dad. Awww. We’re adorable, I know.

Things I’m Loving:

+ An Important Talk About Business & Standing Up For Yourself – Absolutely fantastic blog post about standing up for yourself as a photographer, which is something that people feel guilty about. (That’s what I went to school for, trust me. People are worried that others won’t hire them because of their prices, but that money is covering so many things that, truthfully, sometimes photographers are barely making minimum wage with what they charge.) Line from: “So that’s that. But what mostly wanted to share, discuss, and bring up was the idea of STANDING UP FOR YOURSELVES AS PEOPLE, AS PHOTOGRAPHERS, AND AS CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS, FOR THE SAKE OF THE INDUSTRY.” Amen.

+ Upon A Fold – A blog about people creatively using paper. The blog is filled with fun, artistic pieces Justine has found and shared with her readers. The notebooks & stationary is probably my favourite place, however.

+ Make Everything Ok – The Make Everything Ok button, once clicked will, well…make everything ok. Well, maybe not. But it’s worth the try. The least it will do is put a smile on your face.
