Last week’s weekend phone round up was late, but I’m trying to figure out some sort of rhythm with posts, which might take a little while to get used to (for me more than anyone.). I do have some other photos I took, which I will put up within the next two days.

I’m done at Planet S this Thursday, so this was my last back/forth weekend before I stay at home for the summer. Which will be nice. That’s a three hour drive and I like driving, but there’s only so much a body can handle.

1. Even after four tries the barista couldn’t get my name right. (My mother gave her A for effort though. She did get pretty close.)

2. Lunch time hot chocolate and reading. Such a good book. Read it!

3. Sidewalk art by a local business. Now, if the weather could listen!

4. My sister moved all her stuff home from university. No back window for us!

5. 5/5 of the boys in the family enthralled by kid programming.

6. Bro #1 did some Warhol inspired art.

7. Farmer’s pennies with the family. We are a family who takes cards v.v. seriously. You’re warned if you ever get the chance to play with.

8. My drive home last night. Rain, rain and more rain.

This weekend was also my mother’s birthday (Saturday) and my parents’ anniversary (Sunday), so lots of present, lots of cake, lots of photos. It was good. You can already feel, with the weather starting to warm up a little, that people are gearing up (or down) for summer. Still another month and a half to go, yes, but the feeling is stil there.

Things I’m Loving:

(For some reason my link button isn’t working, so links will be posted beside)

+ German Wildlife Photography (http://bit.ly/Iobc1W) - Absolutely breathtaking. I’ve looked through them three times already and just, wow. The amount of talent these people have and the amount of beauty our world possesses is just stunning.

+ Micro Gardens (http://bit.ly/HjQBfx) – I try and have a garden during the summer (last year my dad had to take care of it when I went to Taiwan), but something small is a nice warm up to the bigger ones in the backyard.

+ Of A Kind (http://www.ofakind.com/) – Where the items you buy are one of only a certain number made, making them that much more unique!

+ German English (http://bit.ly/JYTq7M) – How Germans say some English phrases. Really adorable.

+ Study Kit (http://www.dormify.com/study-kit) – For those studying for finals, a bit of a kit to help you though those long nights. They also have one for breakups, travel, being sick, feeling down, mom misses you.

Another weekend spent at home, which means more Instagram photos because it’s easier to play ball when you have a phone than when you have a fifty billion pound camera strapped to your wrist. These boys are going to be pro, if their ability to pop it over the neighbour’s fence is anything to go by.

1. – 4.  Brothers #3 & #4 outside playing baseball because it’s finally nice outside.

5. Wondering why Bro. #3 keeps running away from us and the Ribbit jacket.

6. Big sister boots and little brother boots.

7. Lunch today at Jake’s On 21st. Those pita chips and dill dip are worth the visit alone.

Things I’m Loving:

+ Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday. I have, quite literally, no ability to be partial about this.  None. UnaMadridista has three (I, II, III) great posts about the game, which was a record breaker on several levels and just….:D  /euphoria

+ 10 Beautiful Literary Box Sets – That Lord of the Rings set is the one my dad has, the only set I’ve read. He’s also a Calvin & Hobbes fan and I think that might be something I’ll get for his birthday this year.

+ Not in Nottingham – Mumford & Sons did a cover of Not In Nottingham, from Disney’s Robin Hood, which is in the fluctuating top three of my favourite Disney movies (along with The Lion King and Beauty & the Beast).

+ Loud Boy – I bought this for Bro. #2 (who turned 9) for his birthday and he absolutely loves them. I mean, he loves reading, but, according to my mom, he’s read them 3-4 times already, which is saying something for a kid who has ADD.

I always seem to remember about blogging at the most inopportune times. When I’m working, just before a football match starts, just before bed as I’m drifting off to sleep. And of course, I always say to myself, “Later, later,” or, “I’ll do it tomorrow,” and now look at me. It’s been exactly a week since my last blog post. Because I’m lazy like that. (Seriously, I’m pushing it with this one right now as I’m supposed to pick my sister up in twenty minutes. Oh boy.

A couple of things happened though, which was really cool. First: last Saturday my friend Meghan and I (the girl with the skateboard in my last post) went to our first roller derby! It was actually really fun once we got into it and sort of figured it out. (She commented that we should have watched Whip It before going.) I just grabbed my camera on my way out of the house, so no long lens, but, I was really glad I went and even with the few photos I got.

As well, the second issue of Planet S came out yesterday! While you can see the Lifestyle bit I did, you’ll actually have to get your hands on the issue to see all the photos/profiles/ads that I did for it. So, if you’re in the Saskatoon area, pick up a copy! It turned out really great and I’m really proud of all the pieces that I had included in it.

Image

Michael Eva won Best Bartender for this year. He works at Amigo’s Cantina and was loads of fun to interview.

Image

Adam Taylor won Best Barista from his job at Museo. Guys, he worked in Sweden as a barista for a year. That alone should more than impressive.

So yes, if you’re in the area, pick up a copy. I’m thinking I might take photos of some of the published stuff for those of you who can’t, because I’m nice like that. (And I like to show off.)

Things I’m Loving:

+ Envoy of Belfast – Let’s just say my wallet is so thankful it’s broke because it would quickly get there if I had any money.

+ Charity Tickets – If you’re a Canadian Men’s National Team fan but can’t get to any of the games this summer, you can send a kid to a game instead. Since I won’t be able to go, definitely something I’m going to do.

+ How To… –  A list of ten things you’ll never know if you might need. From how to sharpen a disposable razor to testing a car alternator to surviving in quick sand or being buried alive to hacking an alarm clock, they’ve got you covered. (Let’s hope you won’t need all of those at any point in time!)

+ Milk Tea Boba – Things I miss from Taiwan last summer: bubble tea. I haven’t had it since I left, mostly because if you’re not in the BIG centres, it’s really not the easiest thing to find. Making my own while I’m at home this summer is probably the closest I’ll get, so this will definitely come in handy!

friends, saskatoon, spring

Saskatoon doesn’t look like this anymore. Actually, it’s cold and windy and has been threatening to rain for the last two (three?) days. I thought spring was on its way the other day when my friend Meghan and I went out, her with her skateboard, me with my camera.

The great thing about someone who isn’t used to you having your camera out is that they aren’t sick (yet) of you taking their picture. I’m sure it’ll wear off, but, until it does, I’m going to use it to my advantage like nobody’s business.

Things I’m Loving:
+ Boys Will Hire Boys - “The media is male and getting maler.” An interesting article (with extra links to numbers and graphs) that shows how the number of women in media is declining and how men are more inclined to hire other men for a job that a women is possibly more qualified to do.
+ Spring Playlist by Kinfolk Mag - I have a ridiculous love for Kinfolk. I really do. I have their first two issues and can’t wait to order their third. It’s really no surprise that they can not only put together beautiful magazines, they can also create a wonderful playlist.
+ Smoked Tuna Quinoa Kedgeree - Anthology Mag was doing a recipe-a-week deal for the last five weeks and this one caught my eye like nobody’s business. Not only do I love food (obviously) but I seriously love seafood. And fresh fish? I’d eat it all the time if I could. So, this is on my list of things to make as soon as possible. But until then, I’ll just stare at the beautiful photography.
+ Women United Football Club - If you’re a female fan of the MLS, then head on over. Snagged from their front page: “In America and abroad, MLS has scores of female soccer fans, but there is little in the way of communities or reporting to serve them. We’re changing that in 2012. This is a place where women of all ages who are MLS fans can meet, mingle and blog about their thoughts. Join us as we get to experience the thrills and spills of pro soccer in a whole new way!”  Yeah, that’s something I can definitely get behind.

Instagram came out for Android last week. So, guess what I did this weekend? That’s right, I did that thing where I forgot that I have a very, very nice camera that I love and adore (so much that he’s named), and instead used my phone. Because that’s what you do. You get a new toy and you play with it all the time. But you always come back to that old toy that you love. For right now though, I just have new!toy pictures* to show you.

1. & 2. Egg-y eyes.

3. My brother and my’s two-toned eggs. For a two year old, he picks complimentary colours very well.

4.) Family wrestling in the living room.

5.) We got a foot of snow. Power went out, I didn’t get to have my hair cut, it was cold. Basically: it sucked.

6.) Game nights with the family. Farmer’s pennies. Which I am starting to get quite good at. Even if it took me awhile to warm up to.

* that I realize have been taken with a very, very terrible phone camera. And what’s the point of Instagram if you don’t jazz it up a little? (My PhotoJ teachers are all having mini heart attacks over my logic right now.)

Things I’m Loving:

+ Poem – It’s poetry month (which I think I mentioned in my last post…) and ugh. THIS POEM. My friend linked me to it off of tumblr and just…the imagery that a few lines, a few phrases conjure up is just…breathtaking.

+ Elite Soccer Players Are Smarter Than You Are – An interesting look at the ‘dumb jock’ theory and how that isn’t accurate…at all. The discussion at the bottom gets a bit…off, in my opinion, because naturally athletes aren’t scientists, that’s a different form of thinking. But, that they’re not quite as dumb as a post as most people may think.

+ Old Timey Star Wars Illustrations – Things that should collide more often: Star Wars + history + art. And that’s what happens here. Though, let’s be honest here: I think Han Solo would be the most difficult one to get dressed up. He’d just want to work it in his white t and vest because he could.

+ Nutella Lava Cookies – Nutella is the spread of the gods and Nutella cookies is the food of the gods. Seriously.
